Sustainable Auping
Design for a green future
A thing is right when it tends to preserve the integrity, stability, and beauty of the biotic community. It is wrong when it tends otherwise. —Aldo Leopold, A Sand County Almanac
At Auping there are three important pillars; design, comfort and sustainability. In the past 4 years I’ve dedicated myself to implement sustainable design where and whenever I could. One of the best examples where I worked on is the netstapper in an Auping bed. This nifty product keeps your mattress in place when you adjust it, even if you don’t have a frame. By using a new, innovative and patented moulding insert we could make this out of a 100% recyclable part (made of recycled plastic), where the old model was based on Velcro glued to a high quality plastic, and produce it in our own country.
Another good example is a product also developed for the new adjustable mesh bases which have a safety feature for not overhauling the backside of the bed. Instead of using the old method of a strap connection (10 SKU’s) we developed a new sliding mechanism (2 SKU’s) which has an automatic lock system made out of recycled plastic. Easy to (dis)assemble and also producible in the Netherlands.
